Social media is nowadays more of a platform for spreading awareness and even hatred or trolling people. But there are a few organisations that have been making very good use of these platforms for humanity. Social Media Giving Day is one such movement aimed at raising charity for those in need. The day is celebrated every year on July 15 and was started by Givver.com which is a non-profit organisation invented by Chris Sommers who is the founder of Pi Pizzeria, the famous American food chain.
Givver.com started celebrating this day in 2013 and since then has encouraged many people to raise money for charity.
How to celebrate Social Media Giving Day?
You can join this movement of Givver.com or on your own celebrate the day by giving something of your own. Here are a few ideas that you can use to celebrate this special day.
You can give away certain things that you own. These can be anything that you have used but are in very good condition and can be useful to others. For example, your tools and books as students, old mobile phones that are in working condition, or even clothes that you have stopped wearing because your size has changed.
You can offer service to people. For example, you can help elderly people in old age homes to schedule their medicines, take them to healthcare givers for appointments, or even take them on a small outing to make their day. If you are good at cooking you can try offering your baked dishes to young children near your neighbourhood free of cost. The smile that this act will bring on the face of the little children will be a much better reward than what you will earn selling them.
If possible, you can arrange a talent or art show, or offer to wash cars or do grocery shopping, or clean the garden for people in need to make the purpose of this day fruitful.
