Puri: The Holy Trinity, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, who are suffering from high fever after taking the ceremonial grand bath on Snana Purnima, will be administered treatment with a special concoction called ‘Phuluri’ oil.
The Daitapati sevayats will apply the special herbal oil on the bodies (Sri Anga) of the ailing deities as part of secret rituals today on the fifth day of the Anasara period.

The oil which generally takes a year to prepare will be provided by the Bada Odia mutt for a faster healing of the deities before they reappear during the Rath Yatra.

As per the centuries-long practice, the kachi ghani sesame seeds oil (til oil) mixed with other aromatic herbal products and flowers are buried underground in a clay pitcher on Hera Panchami day. A year after the oil-filled pitcher is dug out for the treatment of the trinity.
It is believed that Lord Jagannath and siblings recover faster after special massage with the ‘Phuluri’ oil. After a slight recovery, solid foods will be offered to the lord who had been consuming the liquid prasad due to illness inside the Anasara chamber of the temple.
The deities fell sick after having a ritualistic bath with 108 pitchers of aromatic water on Snana Purnima day. The once-in a year ritual was carried out this this year without the participation of devotees due to Covid pandemic.
The district administration had clamped prohibitory orders to prevent public access to the rituals as the State government had decided the conduct the Snana Yatra ritual without devotees due to pandemic.
