Big Bollywood movies with huge budgets in crores led by superstars are failing to work at the box office. Interestingly, while the distributors and producers are facing losses, the superstars have been walking away with some major chunk of the moolah. And that is the reason why Bollywood is currently suffering a lot.
Apart from demanding big paychecks in the form of remuneration that can be anything from 50 to 100 crores, these superstars also are asking for a decent share in the profitability of the movie. And if the movie is from an action genre then the VFX and CGI take another huge share. That is why the budget of such movies is always between 200 to 400 crores.
For example Maidaan, led by Ajay Devgn was made on a budget of 250 crores and it is expected that a big chunk of this budget went to the Singham actor as remuneration.
It is one of the biggest disasters of Bollywood ever and has managed to earn below 30 crores in its first week. The same can be said for Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan which was made on a budget of a whopping 350 crores. But its first week collections are just over 45 crores which is quite low even though the movie has two Bollywood stars in the lead.
And this is where Southern star Prithviraj Sukumaran, who was a part of BMCM, makes sense.
According to the Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire actor, “Malayalam Cinema thrives on a unique tradition where the focus is on Quality Production rather than hefty PayChecks, unlike other industries where hefty remunerations eat up the budget.”
Here, stars like akshay, tiger eat up 80% of the budget leading to poor films. That's the real reason behind bollywood's decline. Sad thing is unlike south stars, they can't even deliver a respectable opening.

When the focus is on quality content, the movie is bound to click with the audience. But since the remuneration does not put the burden on the filmmakers, even if the film performs decently, no one is at a loss and it is a win-win situation.
