While most of the movies were released on different OTT platforms in 2021 due to Covid curbs, the last quarter saw theatres getting flooded with crowds. Movies like Sooryavanshi (Rs 294.91 crore) and 83 (Rs 193.73 crore) had a decent gross collection while Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa: The Rise also showed remarkable performance at the Box Office (Rs 184.62 crore worldwide collection). However, the scenario has changed in 2022. Several movies have registered excellent collections while some of those have created new history.

Here are some of the Indian movies that have released in the first half of 2022 and achieved big feat in the Indian cine industry.

The Kashmir Files

The Kashmir Files released on March 11 and was the first movie of 2022 that became commercially successful. The movie centred around the 1990s exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in Kashmir and depicted the exodus and the events that lead to genocide. The film starring Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar and Pallavi Joshi got mixed critic responses. Made at a budget of Rs 15 crore, this Hindi movie still stands at the top with Rs 340.16 crore worldwide collection.

RRR

SS Rajamouli helmed RRR was hitting the headlines since its announcement. Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn starrer RRR went on to become the Biggest Blockbuster movie of Indian Cinema. The movie still continues its journey with its box office collections. Made at a budget of Rs 550 crore, the box office collection is estimated at over Rs 1200 crore.

KGF: Chapter 2

KGF Chapter 2 starring Yash, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon and Srinidhi Shetty was one of the most anticipated pan-India movies. Helmed by Prashanth Neel, the sequel of the KGF franchise was released on April 14 and had a monstrous box office collection worldwide. The movie went on to break several records of Indian cinema, including the total box office collection of RRR. Made at a whopping budget of Rs 100 crore, the movie cashed over Rs 1200 crore.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

Kartik Aaryan starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 went on to become the second most successful movies of the year till date. Made at a budget of Rs 64 crore, the movie collected Rs 262.04 crore and the collection still continues. Directed by Anees Bazmee, the movie also starred Tabu, Kiara Advani and Rajpal Yadav. While Kiara failed to impress the audience, it was Tabu and Rajpal's performance that glued the audience to their seats.

While several movies were released in the first half of 2022, only the above-mentioned 4 movies were able to achieve the glorious feat with their mammoth collection.

Movies that made it to the headlines

However, movies like Gehraiyaan, Badhaai Do, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Radhe Shyam, Dasvi, Jhund, Bachchhan Paandey, Sharmaji Namkeen, Jersey, Runway 34, Thar, Samrat Prithviraj and Jugjugg Jeeyo were the talk of the town. Even Kannada movie 777 Charlie starring Rakshit Shetty and Charlie garnered much appreciation for its soulful concept.

Gangubai Kathiawadi

First, it was Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi that became the talk of the town with its release in February. Alia's stellar performance was highly appreciated by movie lovers. Helmed by ace director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the movie received critical acclaim. Gangubai Kathiawadi was approximately made at a budget of Rs 180 crore and collected over Rs 209.25 crore (as per reports). Though the movie bombed at the box office, Alia was showered with praises for her powerful acting.

Radhe Shyam

Prabhas came up with his most awaited flick Radhe Shyam in March. Fans of the Baahubali fame had high expectations from the movie and it performed well at the box office. However, made at a whopping budget of Rs 300-350 crore, the movie managed to collect only Rs 214.04 crore. On the other hand, the makers claimed that the movie made a business of Rs 400 crore globally including theatrical release and non-theatrical rights. The movie failed to satisfy a section of the audience.

The entertainment industry suffered a huge loss owing to the Covid pandemic situation, lockdown, shutdown and imposed restrictions. Life after the lockdown wasn't that easy! Somehow, the suffering still continues. However, the industry dared to strengthen its backbone.

Several more movies are waiting for release in the second half of 2022 with R Madhavan starrer Rocketry: The Nambi Effect marking the opening on July 1.
