He started assisting his father Yash Chopra at the age of 18 years on movies like Darr and Chandni. It was when he was working on Lamhe with Yashji that he was convinced that this was what he wanted to do all his life.

During Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge Aditya Chopra had certain twists and climaxes in mind. While most of the seniors working on the movie including Yash Chopra, Saroj Khan and others did not think that the climax should be what Aditya had in mind, but he still went ahead with his gut feeling that made a lot of difference in making the movie such a big hit.
