The University Grants Commission (UGC) has advocated for the optimal utilisation of resources and other infrastructure by Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs).
UGC is of the view that HEIs should adopt measures to share their existing infrastructure with other institutions by charging a nominal amount. The move will certainly help the HEIs to generate additional revenue and the host institutions can maintain their resources in a better way.
This will also ensure that the state-of-art resources are accessible to needy students and researchers.
“For this, the HEIs may allow their resources, like libraries, laboratories, equipment to be shared/used during free time by students and researchers of other HEIs,” the UGC said in its letter to the vice-chancellors of all universities.
Operation of the classrooms and laboratory facilities
As per the UGC guidelines, for optimum utilisation of resources, classrooms and laboratories facilities will be opened at least from 8 am to 8 pm on all working days.
The UGC has asked the vice-chancellors of all universities and other HEIs to take appropriate measures for the implementation of the guidelines to extend benefits to UG, PG students and researchers.
