Youth ‘slow poisons’ elder brother to death in Odisha; chilling audio clip goes viral

In a bone-chilling incident, a youth was allegedly slow-poisoned to death by his younger brother just for being overprotective and strict. The incident has been reported from Salpada-based Gundicha Colony under Anandapur block in Odisha’s Keonjhar district.

As per the allegations, accused Satyabrata Das slow poisoned his elder brother Debabrata Das as the latter wanted him to be serious in life and focus on his studies.

A chilling audio clip of the deceased literally requesting the accused brother to reveal the name of the poison so that doctors could find a diagnosis has gone viral.

“I would have died happily if someone else had poisoned me. But you being my own brother poisoned me; it is giving me more pain. I fall in your feet, please tell me the name of the poison and how many times you have given me,” the deceased can be heard saying as he cries profusely in the purported audio clip.

According to sources, Satyabrata was unhappy as his elder brother Debabrata always wanted him to be serious in life and focus on his studies. Filled with jealousy, he allegedly started slowly poisoning his brother, leaving him paralysed. He even allegedly locked Debabrata in a room and released ‘formalin-mixed gas.’

Family members rescued Debabrata in critical condition and rushed him to a hospital in Cuttack and then shifted to Bhubaneswar, but to no avail. His condition only worsened, finally leading to his death.

While family members were unaware of the slow poisoning, the viral audio clip between the two brothers has left shockwaves in the area. The audio clip features a heartbroken elder brother on his deathbed requesting the accused brother to reveal the name of the poison.

“Chagulu… I was a healthy human being, but you have completely made me defective, what wrong had I done to you? I agree I was a little strict with you as an elder brother, but it was for your benefit. I was studying, but I don’t know why you were jealous of me,” Debabrata can be heard saying in the purported clip.

He continued, “I’m requesting you, please reveal the name of the poison that you gave me, I don’t have any energy to talk with you. I’m having serious chest pain; my neck is also paining, and I cannot even talk. With folded hands, I’m requesting you to reveal the name of the poison, so that doctors can find a treatment for me.” 

In reply, the accused brother (as per the claims) can be heard admitting to poisoning his brother twice.

When contacted, the father of the duo, Pradeep Das said, “We were not aware of the viral recording. Before his death, my son said that he didn’t want to lodge any complaint against his own brother but I went to the police station. But, I was asked to wait until the post-mortem report comes.”

Police version could not be obtained over the authenticity of the audio clip.
