Police deployed in the area
At least five people, including three women, were killed in a cold-blooded clash between two groups in Karamdihi under Sadar police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district late last night. An extramarital affair is suspected to be the reason behind the bone-chilling incident.
According to sources, a nomad group from Maharashtra’s Wardha has been staying in Karamdihi for the last several months. The people from the group often set up their tents in the villages and sell various products to earn a livelihood.
A person named Abinash Pawar also belonged to the group and stayed with his wife and son. According to the allegations, Abinash’s wife developed an extramarital affair and eloped with her lover. Following this, Pawar brought home a woman from another nomadic group, leading to a rift between the two groups.
On Tuesday night, Pawar’s group was asleep when the other group allegedly attacked them with sharp-edged weapons and killed five people leaving Abinash, a woman, and two other children critically injured.
After the brutal attack, the 'perpetrators' allegedly kidnapped Abinash’s second wife and two children before fleeing the spot.
On being informed, western range DIG Brijesh Ray, Sundargarh SP, and Sadar SDPO, along with police, forensic teams, and a dog squad team, rushed to the village and assessed the situation.
“As soon as we were informed, we rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire village. Five persons including three women have been killed. Four injured are currently undergoing treatment at Sundargarh DHH. During the probe, we came to know that four persons entered the village with sharp-edged weapons and attacked everyone,” informed DIG Ray.
“We have alerted neighbouring Jharsuguda and Sambalpur police to check key points at bus-stands, railway stations, and other places. A scientific team has been pressed to collect evidence. We will soon arrest the culprits,” he added.
