A young doctor suffered injuries after he was allegedly attacked with knife by a youth following an altercation in Jagamara area of Bhubaneswar on Monday.

The incident reportedly took place at Jagmara Chowk. The doctor, Ashutosh Pradhan, is working at a Covid hospital in Koraput. He sustained injuries to his hands in the attack.

“I was travelling towards Khandagiri on my friend’s bike at around 4.15 pm. When I came across a humps and applied brake, a white colour Ford hit me from behind. Soon a youth came out of the car and demanded money saying the car was damaged in the collision,” said Pradhan.

“As I protested, the youth, who was in intoxicated condition, pulled out a knife from the car and tried to attack me. He tried to stab me in my stomach, but the knife hit my hand,”

The doctor said that none came to his rescue even if the incident took place in a broad daylight and at a busy stretch.

“I was frightened and stood at a distance before dialling the PCR. People were present there, but they turned mute spectators. Though the PCR van reached there, the response time was high,” the doctor said.

“I do not feel safe in the city. Though it is a smart city, the people are not smart. There is reign of local people here,” he added.

On the basis of the complaint, Khandagiri police caught hold of the accused, who is said to be a native of Jagamara.
