If you are in the Smart City of Bhubaneswar and come across contrabands or illegal narcotics being peddled or traded, you can directly pass the information to the dedicated Police help Desk by texting at 7077798111.

People can inform any kind of activity related to the circulation of illegal narcotics substances by informing the police by simply sending a Whatsapp message on this number. The police promise to respond with the same level of alacrity. However, the important component of the message would be the precise location address.

The phone number was, in fact, issued some months back to help the public report street crimes to the police in Bhubaneswar. However, the same number was reissued on Monday with an additional provision- reporting illegal drugs-related activities following the launch of operation ‘White Spider’ by the Commissionerate police aimed at riding the streets in the Capital City of drugs.

The operation was set in motion by systematically targeting the network of drug peddlers active mostly in the slum areas of the Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, informed Bhubaneswar DCP, Umashankar Dash.

The first case under the ambitious operation was cracked on Monday under Bharatpur Police station when 280gm of Brown Sugar was seized from a peddler. He has been detained and a probe has been launched to identify more such peddlers.

The DCP called upon the residents of Bhubaneswar to cooperate with the police in the effort to clean the Smart City of the menace of narcotics. “Only the efforts of police may not suffice, so we need all cooperation from the civil society to ward this social evil off Bhubaneswar,” said Dash.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Commissionerate police have launched a two-pronged long term strategy codenamed, ‘White Spider’ and ‘Basti Ku Chala’, respectively, to keep streets in the State Capital free from crime and criminals.
