In a shocking incident, two women at Golamunda area in Kalahandi district and their lover who allegedly killed their newborns in Goa in order to hide their illicit relationship have been arrested by the police.

All three of them, who committed the crime in far away Goa where they worked as migrant labourers during the lockdown period last year were rounded up following protracted questioning. The skeletal remains of the two children have also been recovered from Goa.

According to reports, the man identified as Tripal Nayak developed relationship with both the women when they were all working as migrant workers in Goa during last year’s lockdown period. Nayak developed physical relationship with both the women and subsequently impregnated them.

While one of the women gave birth to a boy the other had a baby girl. In order to hide their illicit relationship, they allegedly killed both the newborns and buried them behind their house. The trio returned to Odisha in July and went to their native places.

The incident came to light when Nayak tried to marry one of the women. However, the other woman came to know about the development and, with the help of her family members, lodged a complaint with Golamunda police.

Police subsequently detained the trio and during their questioning came to know about the crime they had committed in Goa. Subsequently, three of them were put under arrest. Police later took Nayak to Goa and the skeletal remains of the newborns were exhumed from the place where the children were buried. Post-mortem on the remains was conducted by the forensic laboratory.

“Blood sample from the accused has been collected for DNA profiling. Further investigation into the incident is underway,” said Dharmagarh SDPO Dhiraj Kumar Chopadar.
