In a spine-chilling incident, armed miscreants hacked a woman to death while critically injuring another during a daring daylight house break-in at Zamidarpada village under Bangomunda police limits in Bolangir district on Saturday.

It is suspected that the women were attacked by the armed miscreants when they tried to resist an attempt to rob the house. While one of the victims died on the spot, the injured woman is stated to be critical.

As per reports, the armed miscreants broke into the house of cloth trader Binod Jain in the village at around 1 pm on Saturday. It is suspected that the miscreants attacked Binod's wife Manjudevi Jain and his sister Kan Kumari Jain with sharp weapons after the duo resisted their attempts to loot the house.

While the miscreants hacked Manjudevi to death, Kan Kumari was grievously injured in the attack. She was later taken to a hospital in Bolangir for treatment.

"When I entered the house I found my wife lying on the floor in a pool of blood. She was already dead by then. I have no idea if she had been attacked while resisting a robbery. Police can through light on it," said a heartbroken Binod.

After receiving the complaint, teams of policemen along with the in-charges of four police stations rushed to the spot and launched a probe into the incident to trace the culprits and ascertain the real motive behind the murder and violent attack.

However, the police are yet to speak to the media over the incident.

The incident came on a day when people across western Odisha were busy celebrating Nuakhai festival.  The daylight barbaric crime nevertheless turned the festive fervour gloomy in the region.

It is pertinent to mention here that this is not the first incident in the region. Though several violent crime incidents have occurred in the village and nearby areas in the recent past, the Bangomunda police are yet to trace the culprits in any of these cases.
