The Odisha Vigilance department will carry out an investigation into the illegal conversion of classification (kisam) of the land recorded as Jalasaya (water body) to Sarada (agricultural land) in Sanasthiabatia mouza in Dhenkanal district, informed the district Collector on Friday.

As many as 11 people including the then additional Tehsildar of the local Tehsil office have been booked for their alleged involvement in the irregularities in the land records.

According to sources, the kisam of about 31 decimals of Jalasaya land in Plot No 522 of Sanasthiabatia mouza was tampered and converted to Sarada land without any official order.

Though the land irregularities had come to light one and a half year ago and then Collector had ordered a probe, no action was taken against the accused.

After OTV highlighted the issue, an FIR has been lodged by the Tehsil office against 11 people at the Town police station.
Those who have been named in the FIR include the then additional Tehsildar, five amins, two data entry operators, two record keepers and a land agent.

Dhenkanal SDPO Bikash Deura said, “A case has been registered at Town police station under IPC Sections 363, 468, 467, 420, 471 and 120 (B). A former additional Tehsildar and land agents have been detained. Other staff of the Tehsil office have been questioned. We will produce the accused in court.”

Speaking about the case, Dhenkanal Collector Saroj Kumar Sethi said, “I joined this office few days back. After the irregularities came to the fore, I had directed the sub-collector to conduct a probe. On the basis of the report, an FIR has been lodged against 11 people and Vigilance inquiry will be conducted against them.”

“The law will take its own course and those involved in the irregularities will certainly get punished,” he added.
