Transport scam: EOW detains BJD leader Raja Chakra's two associates
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has detained two close aides of prominent Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Raja Chakra amidst an ongoing investigation into corruption allegations. The two associates are under intense scrutiny following their detention as part of the major multi-crore corruption investigation.
Susant Samal and Prabhat Pattanayak, both influential figures of the Suakati Gandhamardhan Loading Agency and Transport Cooperative Society in Keonjhar, are currently being interrogated by the authorities.

Investigation Details:
The EOW, a specialised division focused on financial crimes, has detained Samal and Pattanayak for questioning related to their suspected roles in the multi-crore scandal involving the cooperative society. Officials have indicated that Susant Samal, in particular, orchestrates critical operations within the cooperative, bridging both business and political domains.
Susanta Samal’s Past Allegations:
Samal’s legal troubles are not new. He was previously arrested in a 2010 case concerning the alleged theft of minerals from the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), suggesting a recurring involvement in legal disputes. His re-emergence in this investigation further complicates the political landscape.
On the other hand, Raja himself is being scrutinised by the EOW for his role in the economic misconduct.
Political Implications:
Meanwhile, intellectuals have noted that the case could have a ripple effect, impacting the political dynamics and power equations in the state. Authorities are hopeful that further insights from the ongoing interrogations will aid in uncovering the depth of the alleged corruption.
The developments continue to unfold, with the political landscape in Odisha watching closely.
