In the wake of the death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal at the premier KIIT University in Bhubaneswar, the Odisha government has launched a dedicated International Student Facilitation Cell to provide necessary support and assistance to international students studying across the State.
According to sources, the Higher Education Department has rolled out the cell for international students across Public, Private, and deemed universities in the State.
Sources informed that the dedicated cell aims to foster a conducive and inclusive environment for international students pursuing or interested in pursuing their studies at colleges and universities in Odisha. The helpline numbers of the dedicated cell are 0674-2323403 and 0674-2323404, and these numbers will be available between 10:30 am and 05:30 pm on all working days.
A two-member team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) led by Joginder Singh arrived in Bhubaneswar on Thursday and investigated the case and allegations of harassment of students at the KIIT University. Key officials of the institution were also questioned as part of the probe.

The NHRC members stated that they would continue their work until the investigation is complete, strictly following the commission’s directives.
Meanwhile, NHRC has extended an invitation to the public to submit any pertinent information regarding the controversy at the KIIT university. This follows the NHRC's acknowledgment of the reported incident involving the death of a Nepali student.
