Techie's suicide: Deceased’s male friend quizzed ahead of chargesheet filing

The Commissionerate Police on Thursday reportedly questioned Soumyajit Mohapatra in connection with the suicide of woman software engineer Sweta Utkal Kumari in Bhubaneswar last month.

Soumyajit was reportedly questioned by Chandrasekharpur police. However, the police have not released any official statement regarding the questioning. 

As per sources, Soumyajit’s father and a cousin accompanied him to the police station during the questioning. 

It is learnt that the police will submit a chargesheet in connection with the death of the woman software professional whose body was found hanging in an apartment in Sailashree Vihar last month. 

Sweta, a resident of Bhadrak, who worked with a reputed IT company in Bhubaneswar, was believed to be in a relationship with Soumyajit. 

The family members of the deceased alleged that she took the extreme step after being blackmailed by her boyfriend. 

Earlier, on basis of a complaint filed by the deceased’s father, the police registered a case against Soumyajit under IPC Section 306 (offence of abetment to suicide).
