The Commissionerate Police has expedited the investigation into the suicide of lady software engineer Sweta Utkal Kumari in Bhubaneswar and decided to issue a summon notice to her alleged boyfriend Soumyajit Mohapatra for questioning.

The CP is expected to question Soumyajit to find out the exact reason why Sweta took the extreme step. The summon notice holds significance as the family members of Sweta have been accusing Soumyajit of abetting her suicide.

Meanwhile, CDR (Call Detail Record) report revealed Sweta had made 15 phone calls to Soumyajit at around 1:30AM, an hour before she allegedly ended her life in her apartment. However, Soumyajit had not picked her calls.

The police have reportedly conducted searches at a management institute in the city where Soumyajit studies. He is on the police radar after Sweta’s body was found hanging in an apartment in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

Sweta, a resident of Bhadrak, who worked with a reputed IT company in Bhubaneswar, was believed to be in a relationship with Soumyajit. The family members of the deceased alleged that she took the extreme step after being blackmailed by her boyfriend.

“Soumyajit ruined the life of my daughter. I request the State government to order a probe and take stringent action against Soumyajit,” said deceased Sweta’s mother.

The police have recovered a diary and a mobile phone from the deceased's room. Her boyfriend’s name, Soumyajit, was reportedly mentioned in the diary.

Meanwhile, on basis of a complaint filed by the deceased’s father, the police have registered a case against her boyfriend Soumyajit under IPC Section 306 (offence of abetment to suicide).
