Unidentified burglars broke into a house at Talpalipada in Bolangir district in the absence of the owners and decamped with the cash and valuables.
Incidentally, the audacious crime took place when the family was away following the death of a girl child sometime back. The burglary was reported to the police only after the family discovered it following their return on Saturday.
As per reports, Nirupama Nanda, a medical student lost her life to some unknown reason around 15 days back in Talpalipada. The grieving family of Nirupama then locked up the house at Talpalipada and went to their native village in Puintala on October 6 to perform the last rites.

However, when the family returned to their house in Talpalipada on Saturday, they found the door lock broken. On opening the house they found it had been burgled. After a brief search, they found the burglars had taken away around Rs 2.5 lakh in cash, over 55-gram gold jewellery as well as other valuables from the house.
Moreover, the robbers had created a mess inside the house by using the household articles, food and even Ayurvedic medicines before leaving. To be specific, the robbers used a weighing machine to measure their weights and also tasted Chyawanprash from the bottle which was found with its lid open.
After a complaint was lodged by the family, staff from the Bolangir Town Police Station reached the spot and launched an investigation into the matter.
