In a horrific incident, two men brutally gang-raped a woman at Sukruli in Mayurbhanj district on the pretext of offering her a lift before inserting a stick into her private parts. The survivor has been admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Sukruli with multiple injuries. 

Though the incident occurred on Friday evening the FIR in the case was lodged at the Rarun police station on Saturday.

In her statement to the police, the survivor, who is around 50 years old, said two youths had offered her lift in their motorbike on Friday evening when she was returning to her village after watching Durga Puja Pandals at Tangia village under Raruan Police Station limits in the district. 

However, the two men then forcibly took her to the banks of Bhandan River and took turns to rape her. The miscreants allegedly hit the survivor on the head and later inserted a stick in her private parts, injuring her critically, before fleeing the spot.

Some locals heard her screams and informed the fire brigade about the incident.

“Some locals came to our office and informed us about a woman lying by the side of a road near the river. We immediately rescued her and rushed her to a hospital. Later, we informed the police about the incident. She told us that two youths took her the riverbanks and gangraped her,” said a fire personnel.

Dr Dhananjay Soren, a doctor at Sukruli CHC said, “The woman was admitted to the hospital by the Fire Services staff at around 7 pm. The survivor told us that she had been gang-raped by two men. She has received critical injuries on her head and private parts. She has been given primary treatment here,” he added.

The Raruan Police Station has recorded the statement of the survivor and started an investigation. 

The IIC at Raruan Police Station, Dayanidhi Das said, “Two youths offered her lift in their motorbike while she was returning after visiting Pandals at Tangia village. The duo took her to the riverbank and gang-raped her. She seems mentally challenged. We have recorded her statement and started an investigation,” the IIC stated.
