Seized vehicles by Odisha Police
Odisha Police has launched a major state-wide crackdown on illegal sand and minor mineral operations. The move aims at curbing the dominance of sand mining mafia, who are a threat to local resources as well as the community.
The state-wide drive was launched following the directions of Odisha Police DG YB Khurania.

Senior police officials in different districts carried out extensive raids against suspected illegal sand mining operations. Numerous district police units have remained on high alert, actively conducting operations designed to dismantle sand smuggling networks.
In a series of operations on Sunday, police forces executed independent raids on several illegal sand extraction sites.
These joint efforts led to the confiscation of 136 vehicles, including tractors, trucks, and tippers carrying drained sand unlawfully. As a result, 119 cases have been registered, and 123 individuals were apprehended.
Law enforcement officials have affirmed their commitment to sustaining these operations to eradicate the illegal sand trade.
Residents have also been urged to report any suspicious sand or morum (a regional term for gravelly soil) trading they observe in their vicinity to the authorities, as police are set to continue the crackdown. It is said that by taking a stand against illegal sand mining, communities help protect vital environmental and economic resources.
The police department has reasserted its determination to tackle illegal sand trafficking robustly in the upcoming days across the state.
