The body of a migrant labourer, who died in Tamil Nandu under mysterious circumstances, has been lying unattended in an Ambulance for the last three days at his village, Kuruda, under Soro police limits in Balasore district.

This is because family members of the deceased labourer, identified as Sanjay Das, are refusing to receive the body alleging it to be a case of murder. They are demanding an investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of Sanjay and stern action against the perpetrators.

Tension gripped the village after the residents allegedly detained the ambulance and its staff who had carried the body from the outside the State to the deceased’s native place.

“The villagers are asking us about the reason of his (Sanjay’s) death which we don’t know. His death didn’t occur on the company premises. He had died outside the unit where he worked,” said Bharat Sahoo, who accompanied the body to the village.

The bereaved family alleged that Sanjay had been murdered by the contractor who had taken him to Tamil Nadu promising job.

“We received a call regarding the death of Sanjay. We had been told that his body was lying near a canal. An iron rod was also found near the body. His shoes were missing. A letter has been recovered from his pocket,” brother of the deceased said.

He said the body was wet while the letter which was found on him was in dry condition. “How is it possible” he asked.
“We he had been murdered. We want justice,” he demanded.

Mother of the deceased labourer also demanded immediate arrest of the killer/s.

“My son’s body has been lying unattended for the last eight days as he died last week. Police have turned a deaf ear to our complaint,” she alleged.

“Police termed it suicide. But, we suspect he had been murdered as the body bore multiple deep wounds. Traces of sand is found from his mouth,” a neighbour said.

He alleged that the Police were trying to hush up the case as they had been bribed by the contractor.

According to reports, 35-year-old Sanjay had migrated to Tamil Nadu with a local contractor to work as labourer. However, he had died on July 14 under mysterious circumstances. The contractor has sent the body to his village in an ambulance.

Even though the body reached the village three days ago, family of the deceased refused to the perform last rites demanding proper investigation into the suspected murder.
