Unidentified armed miscreants unleashed terror at the residence of Khallikote MLA, Suryamani Baidya by pelting stones and vandalizing property, on late Thursday. They later hurled bombs at her supporters in her native village, grievously injuring four of them.
The injured have suffered multiple pellet injuries. While two of them have been admitted to a hospital in Khalikot, the rest two, who are said to be critical, have been shifted to Behrampur.
Though the exact reason behind the attack is still unclear, it is suspected that the incident could have been the fall out of some past enmity.

As per reports, the miscreants ransacked the rented accommodation of the MLA at Nirmaljhor area in Khallikote.
As per reports, she was away when the incident occurred. The attackers, who were armed, also damaged two motorcycles parked outside the house with swords and other sharp weapons, eye-witnesses said.
They also broke the window glass panels by pelting stones, they added. “I was not present when the incident occurred. We suspect this could have been the handiwork of some political rivals. A false case was recently lodged against the MLA’s husband and the local police is to be blamed for today’s attack,” said Srinivas Sahu, one of Suryamani’s close aides.
Sahu claimed that the attackers had planned to kill the MLA. “Luckily she was not present when the house came under attack. She had gone to attend a blood donation camp which was organised on the occasion of the birthday of Rani Saheba V. Sugyani Kumari Deo. She had left the venue barely few minutes prior to the incident,” he added.
Meanwhile, reports said that the miscreants, four in number, also created mayhem at the native village of the MLA at Keshapur Patnasahi by hurling crude bombs at the MLA’s supporters over some past rivalry.
