The body of a Plus II student, Tusharkanta Sahu, who had gone missing since yesterday, was found at the Jobra Barrage in Mahanadi river in the Silver City on Thursday.

Sahu, a student of Christ College in the city, reportedly went missing under mysterious circumstances since Wednesday evening.

“A special team was formed under an officer of the rank of an Inspector (In Charge) who traced the body to the Jobra Barrage. An unnatural death (UD) report has been filed by the Jagatpur Police Station,” said a senior police official, adding, “Further investigation is on.”

He said a missing complaint had been registered with the Phase-2 Police Station in Cuttack after the scooter of the deceased was recovered from the area on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased student have dismissed any possibility of suicide.

They have alleged that the boy had been done to death by some of his friends over a love issue. “A girl and her friends might have killed my brother and later dumped his body. I want them arrested and quizzed by the police,” demanded Sahu’s sister.

She also threatened to immolate herself in front of the police station if ‘justice’ was denied to her.

Reacting to the allegations, the police said that a proper investigation will be carried out by exploring all possible angles. “Hopefully, the riddles of the case will be solved soon,” said the senior police official.
