Odisha on Sunday woke up to two gruesome murders in Ganjam and Sundargarh district. In the first incident, a man’s hands were chopped off by his killers’ who also slit his throat in the most inhumane manner in Ganjam. Similarly, a four-year-old girl was brutally killed and dumped in a dense forest in Sundargarh.
The first incident has been reported from Raibandha village under Badagada police limits in Ganjam district. The body of the deceased, Dambaru Swain, was found dismembered and floating in a local pond earlier today.
Dambaru Swain had recently returned from Surat for his daughter's wedding. The family had been eagerly preparing for the joyous celebration, which now stands overshadowed by this devastating incident. According to family members, Dambaru ventured out the previous night to relieve himself but didn't return.
Some villagers later spotted Dambaru's mutilated remains in the pond on Sunday morning. Relatives of the deceased alleged that a dispute was going on between Dambaru and one Baina Swain of the same village and the latter might have committed the crime. They further alleged that the deceased had received numerous threats over phone before being killed.
In the second incident, a four-year-old girl was allegedly killed and dumped in a forest by her neighbours. The body of the four-year-old Deepali Munda was found in a canal in Jada village under Gurundia police limits.
Based on a complaint by the deceased’s parents, police have detained their neighbours (a couple). Till the last report came in, the cops were questioning the duo.
