Bhubaneswar: A man who posed himself as an Army official has been arrested for violating lockdown norms in Bhubaneswar. Moreover, the imposter, who used to roam around in a SUV with a tampered registration plate, has been found violating traffic norms repeatedly.
The accused, identified as Ratikant Satpathy, has been arrested by the Nayapalli police based on the complaint of a vehicle owner whose registration number had been misused.
As per reports, Satpathy had pasted ‘Army’ sticker on the SUV and was frequently roaming around in the streets of Bhubaneswar caring little for the traffic rules.

The importers activities came to light after the complainant received challans thrice for traffic violation for the vehicle whose registration number was alleged misused by Satpathy. Only after through scrutiny, the complainant started following the movement of the fake Army officer and managed to intercept him on Friday.
Sarat Sahu, Inspector-in-charge of Nayapalli police station said, “On Friday, one Dananjay Hota spotted another SUV with same registration number near Pal Heights. When the driver, Ratikant Satpathy, was confronted, he identified himself as an Army officer before the complainant. Later, the complainant informed us” he said.
According to Sahu, the accused was brought to the police station and he failed to submit any documents which could confirm that he was an Army officer.
“It appears that the accused, who is workings in a finance company, impersonated with an intention to commit some fraud. The accused was using SUV which is registered in the name of another person,” said Sahu.
Sahu further informed that the vehicle which was used by the fraudster belongs to another marked man who is absconding. A case has been registered and further investigation is on, he added.
