Former Patnagarh SDMO Bachaspati Dash, who was earlier transferred by the Bolangir Chief District Medical Officer CDMO to the district headquarters for his alleged involvement in an illegal sex determination and abortion of a woman, has been dismissed from service.

The incident occurred when Dash was posted at the Gop Community Health Centre (CHC) in Puri district in 2020.

"The service of Dr Bachaspati Dash, Specialist in O&G (AD-II), Sub-Divisional Hospital, Patnagarh now working at BBMCH, Bolangir has dismissed under PC & PNDT Act during his incumbency at CHC, Gop, Puri district and order served to him on 08.06.2021," read a notification issued the Bolangir CDMO on Tuesday.

On May 10, Dash was transferred to the Bolangir district headquarters and a departmental inquiry was also initiated against him for a video purportedly showing the Patnagarh SDMO Bachaspati seeking Rs 20000 as bribe to carry out an operation on a patient at the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital (BBMCH), went viral in social media.

In the video, the doctor could be seen cunningly concealing the bribe amount in his pocket.

This apart, the OPD attendant at the Bhima Bhoi MCH, Sashikant was also caught on camera while asking money to remove dressings from the wound of a patient. Both the visuals were aired in an OTV report on May 7.
