As the investigation by the Odisha Crime Branch progresses into the espionage case reported at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Chandipur, more shocking details keep emerging with each passing day.

The Crime Branch on Saturday claimed that the presumed lady handler in the spy ring had promised to visit the Chandipur residence of one of the arrested accused.

Additional Director General of Police (Crime Branch) Sanjeeb Panda said the suspected female operative had given marriage proposals to two of the arrested accused and promised to visit house of another accused located in Chandipur.

“As per our investigation so far, the suspect woman had created seven profiles on Facebook by posting different pictures and identities and contacted the five accused persons. She had given marriage proposals to two of them and also promised to visit the house of another accused located in Chandipur,” Panda said.

“She used a UK SIM card chatted with the accused through various social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. She used to talk Hindi and also made video calls to two accused,” Panda informed.

The ADG said further that investigation is underway to ascertain details of the suspect and the UK phone number she used.

“We are carrying out further investigation to ascertain her actual identity and the place she belongs to,” the ADG  said.

“Our efforts are also underway to find out details of the bank account from which money was transferred to the bank account of one of the accused. Besides, we are inquiring whether they received money from any other sources,” he added.

The Crime Branch team had taken the five accused on a seven-day remand for further interrogation and produced them in a court on Friday after their remand period ended. The probe agency has not appealed for further remand of the accused.
