The Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday carried out simultaneous raids at the houses and property of Nimapada Tehsildar and in-charge Sub-Registrar Ramachandra Jena at various places on charges of the government servant having accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Acting on a tip-off a team of Vigilance officials intercepted Jena near his official residence while he was on his way to office. The anti-corruption sleuths recovered Rs 4,65,000 from his possession during  searches. However, Jena allegedly failed to give any satisfactory reply on the source of the huge cash on him.

Subsequently, the Vigilance sleuths carried out simultaneous raids at his government residence in Nimapada and houses at CDA, Dhanamandala and Garadpur. The officials seized Rs 50,000 from Jena’s official residence.

As many as five PAN cards in his name with different numbers were also seized from his possession. However, his father's name in each of the cards has been mentioned differently. Moreover, Income Tax authorities have been roped in to conduct further investigation into the case.

As the raids are still underway, the exact worth of disproportionate assets unearthed is yet to be ascertained.

“Calculation of Jena’s movable and immovable properties is yet to be completed. We could reveal the exact worth of his properties once the process is finished,” said a Vigilance official.

Earlier on Thursday, Vigilance officials had conducted simultaneous raids at five places associated with dismissed constable Prasanna Behera on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The officials detected property worth around a whopping Rs 7 crore owned by Behera.
