Amid the ongoing protests across Odisha and demand for the ouster of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged involvement in the lady teacher Mamita Meher murder case in Kalahandi, the minister on Monday reiterated his innocence.

While taking part in a programme- ‘Mo Paribara, Odisha Paribara’ at Karanjakote under Golamunda block in the district, Mishra claimed that he has nothing to do with the heinous crime and he has never been to the Sunshine School.

“It is a private school and students up to class eight are admitted in the institution. I have never been to the school where Mamita was a teacher. It’s unfortunate that people, who have never seen Mahaling, are even pointing fingers,” said Mishra.

Meanwhile, reacting to the Minister’s statements, BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi said, "Who is he (Mishra) to claim himself innocent? CBI will only find out the real accused."

She further said that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik should break his silence on the matter and hand over the Mamita Meher murder case probe to CBI to bring the real culprits to book.

Earlier on Friday, Mishra had issued a two-page statement in which he offered to resign from his post and also retire from public life if his involvement in the case is proved.
