Nayagarh: The mutilated body of six-year-old Baby Nayak of Dhundugadia under Banigochhal police limits in Nayagarh district, who was missing since June 12,  was found at an isolated location near the village on Wednesday.

A special team of police, which had launched a frantic search operation to trace the minor girl, recovered the body in a mutilated condition five days after she had gone missing.

Though the exact reason of her death is yet to be ascertained, police suspect it as a case of murder. The accused allegedly involved in the case has also been arrested.

“Her family members had lodged a complaint alleging kidnapping of their minor daughter at Banigochhal police station following which we had constituted a team and launched a search operation. But, today we found her body. The accused has also been arrested. He will be forwarded to court today,” Nayagarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Sidhharth Kataria said.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact reason of the crime, he added.

The minor girl had gone missing while she was playing in front of her house on June 12 at Dhundugadia. Her family members searched her frantically at every possible place but failed to trace her.

Later, they lodged a complaint with police alleging kidnapping of the girl, following which police had launched a search with pressing sniffer dogs into services. All the water bodies in the vicinity of the village were also searched.

Victim’s mother Jhuli Nayak said, “Baby was playing inside the house when I went for bathing. After returning, I called her to take food and she refused to eat and went outside the home to play. Later, she was found missing.”
