With the drug peddlers and the mafias in the neighbouring Balasore district feeling the police heat, the scene seems to have shifted to adjacent Bhadrak. The contrabands seized in the last 90-days tell the tale.
As per police data, Odisha police had seized nearly 1.7kg of brown sugar from the district alone during the last 90-days. But police investigations show Balasore is still the main narco supplier district in the State. The drug trade is gaining currency in the coastal belt, despite the trade having been on police radar for a long.
In sequence to a police operation against drugs, after 96 hours, the Bhadrak police on Tuesday had again seized over 1kg brown sugar having a market value of Rs 1.3 cr. The police have arrested two persons in the matter.

As per police reports, the Bhadrak police confiscated the contraband consignment during an MV checking at Randia Chhak at late night on Tuesday. During the routine checking, the police saw two bike-borne youths fleeing from the spot.
Following this, the police chased and nabbed the duo. On checking, the cops stumbled on a contraband consignment containing around 1.030 kg of brown sugar. Police interrogation revealed that the duo had procured the narcotics from Jaleswar and were transporting to same to Ganijang.
The police had also seized 3 mobile phones and a bike from the accused.
Speaking to the media, Bhadrak SP, Charan Singh Meena said, "Last night when Bhadrak police were conducting a routine check, they noticed two accused trying to escape from the spot and the cops on duty suspecting something fishy, chased the duo that led to the arrest and seizure of contrabands. They arrested duo will be court forwarded today."
