The Special Vigilance Judge Court in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday remanded Anganwadi worker Kabita Mathan to judicial custody till September 28.

Mathan, the Anganwadi worker of Koradakanta anganwadi centre in Bhubaneswar, was arrested by the Vigilance sleuths along with her husband after she was found in possession of disproportionate assets.

Six teams of vigilance cell division comprising 10 DSPs, five inspectors and other staff on Tuesday conducted simultaneous searches at six places in Khordha, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur district on the strength of search warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

Four buildings including one four-storeyed building, one triple-storeyed building and two double-storeyed buildings at Bhubaneswar, 14 plots including 10 in Bhubaneswar, three in Talakusuma, Jagatsinghpur and one plot at Balianta, Khordha, one four-wheeler, three two-wheelers, insurance deposits over Rs 2.2 lakh, gold ornaments weighing approx 212 grams worth over Rs 6.36 lakh and other movable and immovable properties, all totalling to over Rs 4 crore have been unearthed during the house search.

After the thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Mathan were calculated and she was found in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of Rs 2,96,39,475 which constitutes 494% of her known sources of income. 

Further investigation into the case is underway.
