A man has been arrested in Bhubaneswar on the charges of marrying multiple women, by posing himself as a builder, before cheating and abandoning them.

The accused, identified as Priyabrat Mishra, would allegedly dump the women he had entrapped in marital bonds after receiving lakhs of rupees and other luxurious household articles as dowry.

Mishra was arrested on Thursday after separate complaints were filed by two women at the Capital and Mahila Police Stations, respectively.

As per reports, the accused would trap women from affluent families by flaunting his status. After developing proximity he used to convince them for marriage.

Sources said Mishra used to torture the women after marrying and collected dowry from them using threats. His parents and other family members are also part of the game plan, alleged one of the victims.

“I got married to Priyabrat in July 2018. He started torturing me just after seven days of marriage. He purchased the dowry gold jewellery in his name before marriage and kept those with him,” said the victim.

The victim alleged in just 10 days after marriage she came to know that her husband had conducted ring ceremony with another girl recently.

“My in-laws would also support Priyabrat and torture me. They used to give me some medicines to terminate pregnancy and started beating me for keeping contact with my parents,” she said adding her parents had also given a Mercedes car as dowry at the time of marriage.

Based on the complaint of the victim, the accused was nabbed today. However, Priyabrat has refuted the allegations levelled against him. “I have not married multiple women. One divorce case is still sub-judice. All the allegations are baseless,” claimed Priyabrat.
