Suspended ‘Bahubaali’ BJD MLA Prashant Jagdev was sent to judicial custody on Friday after the Khordha ADJ-1 court rejected his bail plea in connection with the assault case registered against him for attacking BJP's Balugaon Mandal chairman last month.

As per reports, the Orissa High Court on October 5 had rejected the anticipatory bail application filed by Jagdev, who has been booked in two cases of assault and intimidation by the Balugaon police. Later the High Court had directed him to remain present in the lower court on Friday and had also directed the lower court to hear the bail plea of the accused.

As directed by the State's top court, Jagdev appeared before the Khordha court on Friday and applied for bail. However, the lower court too rejected his plea. Following the rejection of the bail plea, Jagdev was taken into custody and later underwent a health examination before he was sent to jail.

"The Court analysed the papers and evidence of both the parties and subsequently rejected his bail plea.  He has been booked under 323, 506 and section 3 of SC/SC Act," said Rajanikanth Pattnaik, Government Advocate.

It is pertinent to mention here that Jagdev was accused of attacking BJP Balugaon Mandal chairman Niranjan Sethi on September 8. The Chilika MLA had allegedly abused and slapped Sethi in full public view after the BJP leader inquired the reason for the delay in pension distribution from the NAC Executive Officer.

He had also allegedly snatched the mobile phone of a journalist present on the spot. Following the incident, the BJP leader had lodged a police complaint while another complaint was filed against Jagdev by the journalist at Balugaon police station. After a video of the incident went viral, the police lodged a case against Jagdev under with SC/ST harassment act.

Moreover, the BJD lawmaker was suspended by party Supremo Naveen Patnaik following reports of his alleged ‘hooliganism’.
