The Sambalpur Police on Friday claimed a major breakthrough with the arrest of Dhaneswar Jhankar alias Tima who was successful in evading arrest for several years. Along with Tima, police have also arrested three of his associates.

As per reports, Tima is a notorious criminal who is involved in over 41 cases of robbery, attempt to murder and under the Arms Act. Though he was arrested in a case by the Kuchinda Police in 2018, he managed to give the cops the slip while he was being taken for interrogation during his remand period.

Sambalpur SP, B. Gangadhar said that Tima was a footballer and would overpower three to four victims alone due to his physical strength.

“The notorious criminal managed to evade arrest for long by frequently changing locations. Neither Tima’s associates nor did his family know his whereabouts. He never used a mobile phone and never used to sleep at his house. Tima has married two women and he had instilled fear in the minds of people at Rasanpur village,” said Gangadhar.

According to Police, Tima is involved in a number of crimes in Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda and other parts of the State.

The accused was arrested after two to three months of intense surveillance mounted by a special team of Sambalpur police. He was arrested from a forest near his village at Rasanpur. Several mobile phones, laptop which were stolen by Tima and his associates have been recovered, police said.

“A team was camping near his village and closely tracking his movement. Though we had raided his house several times in 2020 and 2021, we could not nab him. However, after an intense operation and groundwork, we finally managed to bust his hideout and arrest him,” Gangadhar added.
