The Covid-19 infection in Odisha crossed 2500-mark for the time in 2022 with 2,703 cases, including 409 children in 0 to 18 years age group, in the last 24 hours. Khordha district, which includes Bhubaneswar, topped the list again with 926 cases on Friday.

Odisha had last crossed the 2000-mark in a single day with 2,085 cases on July 19, 2021, as per the data revealed by the State Information and Public Relations Department (I&PR). The state had logged 1,897 COVID-19 cases on Thurseday and on Wedenesday, there were 1,216 infections.

The death toll due to Covid-19 has climbed to 8,468 in the State with one more death from Khordha district in the last 24 hours, informed the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.

Among the new infections today, 1579 are quarantine cases while 1124  are local contacts, informed the I&PR department.

With this, the Covid-19 positive tally in the State jumped to 10,62,476 while the active cases stood at 8,237 and the number of recoveries is at 10,45,718 till date.

After Khordha, Sundargarh reported a maximum of 454 infections today, followed by 191 in Cuttack, 179 in Sambalpur, 106 in Jharsuguda and 211 in State Pool.

Odisha so far has tested 2,59,63,037 samples, including 68, 970 in the last 24 hours, for Covid-19. The positivity rate in the State has now jumped to 3.92  per cent.
