Odisha recorded the highest single-day jump in Covid-19  cases in over five months on Thursday as 1,897 persons, including 258 children from 0-18 years, tested positive for the virus.

This is the second day in 2022 that the State has recorded over 1,000 new infections. Odisha had last crossed the 1000-mark in a single day with 1,041 cases on August 18, 2021, as per the data revealed by the State Information and Public Relations Department (I&PR).

On Wednesday, the State had reported 1,216 Covid-19 cases while 680 new cases were detected on Tuesday and 424 on Monday.

Among the new infections today, 1106 are quarantine cases while 791 are local contacts, informed the I&PR department.

With this, the Covid-19 positive tally in the State jumped to 10,59,773 while the active cases stood at 5,739 and the number of recoveries at 10,45,514 till date. The positivity rate jumped to 2.62  per cent.

The death toll due to Covid-19 has climbed up to 8,467 in the State with one more death in the last 24 hours, informed the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.

Khordha district, including Bhubaneswar, reported maximum 669 infections in the last 24 hours, followed by 262 in Sundargarh, 148 in Cuttack, 125 in Sambalpur, 100 in Balasore and 158 in State Pool.

Odisha so far has tested 2,58,94,067 samples, including 72,370 in the last 24 hours, for Covid-19.

On the other hand, the State has so far detected 61 cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
