Stressing that the positivity rate is more important than the number of positive cases, the State Director of Health services Bijay Mohapatra on Friday said that the the positivity rate in Odisha is not high as compared to the number of testing.
Mohapatra said that the rise in COVID positive cases is due to the increase in testing but the positivity rate is not high.
Speaking on the increase in death cases, he said, "...see 80 per cent of ICUs are filled while around 50 per cent of ventilators are filled, which means we do have serious patients and there will be proportionate deaths. However, at the end of the day, if we look into the fatalities in the last 15-20 days, we can know the increase in the case fatality."

On the cases of black fungus being detected in the State, he said, "Black fungus was there in the past, so there's nothing to panic about it. Such cases are increasing because of weakening immunity system. Those with diabetes and undergoing immunosuppressive therapy are getting infected by it."
Meanwhile, the Covid-19 situation continues to remain grim in Odisha with the State hitting an all-time high of Covid-19 cases and deaths on Friday.
As many as 12,523 persons were tested positive while 27 patients undergoing treatment succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours in the State.
Khordha district, which included the State's capital Bhubaneswar, topped the number of cases with 1,842 infections in the last 24 hours. Similarly, Cuttack reported 1,084 cases, Angul (930), Sundargarh (715), Puri (568), Mayurbhanj (546) and Balasore 510 cases.
