Bhubaneswar: The municipal authorities of the city will stop the drive-in and door-to-door vaccination initiative from May 22.

The move comes closely on the heels of Odisha government deciding to stop the practice as it is not approved under the Covid-19 guidelines.

At present drive-in vaccination exercise is underway at 5 centres under 3 zones of Bhubaneswar.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation administration has informed that the inoculation exercise under the novel initiative will continue as planned till May 22 as the slot bookings have been completed til the said date.

Everyday, as many as 2500 doses of vaccines are being administered to beneficiaries at 5 drive-in vaccination centres in the city each day.

The BMC had also recently kicked off vaccination at doorstep for elderly and divyang citizens in the city.

It may be noted that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) while hearing a plea on violation of Covid guidelines after doorstep vaccination and inoculation at such centres, had ruled in favour of immediate suspension of such practice.
