Bhubaneswar: The Covid-19 situation continues to remain grim in Odisha with the State hitting an all-time high of Covid-19 cases and deaths on Friday. As many as 12,523 persons were tested positive while 27 patients undergoing treatment succumbed to the lethal virus in the last 24 hours in the State, said a data released by the Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department today morning.

Of the fresh cases detected across 30 districts of the State, a total of 7,012 cases were reported from quarantine centres while the rest 5,511 were local transmission cases.

Four fatalities each were reported from Khordha and Koraput districts, three each from Nuapada Rayagada and Sundargarh, two deaths from Kalahandi while one each death was recorded in Bargarh, Bolangir, Boudh, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Nabarangpur, Nuapada and Sonepur districts, added the H&FW Department.

Khordha district, which included the State's capital Bhubaneswar, topped the number of cases with 1,842 infections in the last 24 hours. Coming behind Khordha in the infection count was Cuttack with 1,084, Angul (930), Sundargarh (715), Puri (568), Mayurbhanj (546), and Balasore 510 cases, said a data shared by the State Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

Other districts which reported cases between 100 and 500 are- Kalahandi (491), Jajpur (419), Sambalpur (400), Nabarangpur (383), Jharsuguda (373), Ganjam (369), Boudh (365), Jagatsinghour (325), Rayagada (321), Nayagarh (315), Bargarh (315), Balangir (296), Koraput (233), Keonjhar (232), Sonepur (202), Kendrapara (195), Bhadrak (177), Dhenkanal (132), Nuapada (129), Deogarh (106) and Kandhamal (100).

Malkangiri and Gajapati districts reported 73 cases and 53 cases respectively, added the I&PR Department.

With Friday’s inclusion, the Coronavirus positive tally in the State surged to 6,68,422 while the death toll rose to 2,430. The active cases in the State stand at 1,09,438 while 5,56,501 patients have cured or recovered.

The State has so far tested a total of 1,11,80,649 samples including 61,665 on Thursday. Odisha’s positivity rate stands at 5.98 percent.
