OSRTC bus en route to Puri rams into electric pole
As many as 15-20 devotees on their way to Puri sustained critical injuries after an Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) bus ferrying them overturned near Muchuranali village under Lahunipara police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
Preliminary reports stated that the bus was travelling to the revered city of Puri from Sundargarh when the vehicle rammed into an electric police after the driver lost control. The bus with approximately 50 passengers on board, overturned after hitting the pole, leaving several passengers injured.
Approximately 50 passengers were aboard the bus at the time of the incident. Reports indicate that about 20 individuals sustained injuries. Emergency services swiftly transported the injured to a local hospital for medical treatment.
A woman, among the injured, suffered serious injuries due to an electric shock and was subsequently admitted to a Rourkela hospital for advanced care.
Police officials have reached the site, actively engaging in rescue operations and ensuring the injured receive prompt assistance. An official investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the accident.
“The journey was fine until Lahunipara. All of a sudden, there was a huge sound, and the vehicle was imbalanced, leading to the tragic mishap. All the passengers fall over each other. At least 15-16 passengers were injured,” said an injured passenger Prasant Kumar Mohanty.
“The bus hit an electric pole and overturned. Fortunately, there is no casualty although several passengers have been injured,” stated an injured person’s relative.
When contacted, Bonai Sub-Divisional Hospital Dr. Chinmaya Sahu said, “Many of the passengers have sustained injuries on their heads. One of them was electrocuted due to the bus’ collision with the electric pole. The critical have been referred to Rourkela.”
