Pick-up van escapes with elderly man’s severed hand after road mishap in Balasore
In a startling incident, an elderly man lost his hand after he was hit by an over-speeding pick-up van in Jaleswar of Odisha's Balasore district. The condition of the elderly man remains critical while the vehicle fled the scene after hitting him, inadvertently leaving him with a severed hand.
This unusual event occurred near the Laxmananath-Gurudaspur Bridge, where a pickup van hit the victim, resulting in the loss of his hand. Despite the severity of the nature of the accident, the driver fled with the vehicle, leading to the severed hang being carried away in the van.

Despite the initial shock and danger, local residents quickly pursued the vehicle, ultimately intercepting it. The driver was apprehended and served with proper thrashing before being handed over to the police. As per initial reports, the driver has been detained for further questioning and investigation.
Elderly man’s medical condition:
The injured man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was first admitted to Jaleswar Hospital for emergency treatment. However, due to the extensive nature of his injuries, he was later shifted to Balasore Medical College. He has now been referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced surgical intervention.
