Dostana 2 gets its new leading lady! Pratibha Ranta replaces Janhvi Kapoor?

Dostana 2 has long been surrounded by speculation ever since it was first announced with Kartik Aaryan, Lakshya, and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead. While Lakshya continues to remain part of the project, Vikrant Massey has officially joined the cast, stepping in to replace Kartik. Meanwhile, the search for the female lead has finally ended - after reports of Sreeleela being considered, it’s now confirmed that Laapataa Ladies star Pratibha Ranta will take over the role originally intended for Janhvi Kapoor.

Pratibha Ranta Replaces Janhvi Kapoor!

According to latest reports, the long-delayed Dostana 2 has found its new leading lady. Laapataa Ladies star Pratibha Ranta has reportedly stepped in to replace Janhvi Kapoor in Dharma Productions’ much-talked-about sequel. According to a Mid-Day report, Ranta has been locked as the female lead, marking a refreshing change in the film’s lineup.

A Fresh Trio Takes Shape

Alongside Pratibha, the film will feature Vikrant Massey and Lakshya, who continue to headline the project after several years of uncertainty. The script has reportedly been reworked following Kartik Aaryan’s exit, giving the story a new direction while retaining the essence of the 2008 rom-com classic Dostana, which starred Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Abhishek Bachchan, and John Abraham.

Vikrant Massey Confirms His Dharma Debut

Notably, a few days ago, Vikrant Massey confirmed that he would be making his Dharma Productions debut with Dostana 2. Speaking to Times Now, the actor said, “You will see me doing that soon. I think this news is already out. I’m doing Dostana 2. I’m doing my first Dharma movie.”

Known for his range and intensity, Massey shared that audiences will get to see him in a typical, glamorous “Dharma-style” role - a first in his career.

Keeping the Mystery Alive

While confirming his own role, Vikrant kept the identity of the female lead under wraps at the time, teasing fans by saying, “I think wo main nahi bolunga. Wo Karan sir hi bolenge toh behtar hai. Uski bhi toh badi announcement hai.” 

The announcement of Pratibha Ranta’s casting now completes the puzzle, setting the stage for a new-age rom-com trio.

A Long Road to Revival

Originally announced in 2019 with Kartik Aaryan, Lakshya, and Janhvi Kapoor, Dostana 2 faced repeated delays and creative reshuffles.
