Even reports claimed that the makers are all set to revive the project but without Kartik Aaryan. Now, according to fresh reports, Janhvi Kapoor may also be replaced and Sreeleela is the top choice for the female lead. Apart from Kartik and Janhvi, the makers have replaced another key person in the sequel.
Reports have been abuzz for a couple of days that the makers have brought Dostana 2 back on track with Lakshya. However, Koki is not a part of it despite his compromise with KJo. The reports also suggested that Vikrant Massey is replacing Kartik in the long-delayed sequel.
While an official confirmation is awaited from the makers regarding Vikrant replacing Kartik, the new report suggests that the makers have also decided to replace Janhvi Kapoor.
Interestingly, Sreeleela is the top contender for replacing Janhvi in the spiritual sequel of the Dostana franchise.
According to a report by News 18, a source close to the development informed the news portal that the story of Dostana 2 remains unchanged. However, the makers have decided to change the cast and the director.
The source was quoted as saying, "Janhvi Kapoor, who was roped in to play the female lead earlier, is no longer a part of the film. Instead, the makers are considering Sreeleela for the part. Her dance number in Pushpa 2: The Rule has made her a much sought-after name in the movies. And the team of Dostana 2 are extremely keen on having her in the film."
According to the source, there's a lot of demand and positive word-of-mouth for Sreeleela. Moreover, the makers have decided to bring on board a new cast who haven't shared screen space earlier, Sreeleela fits in the requirements.
Furthermore, the source revealed that Dharma Productions has replaced Call Me Bae director Collin D’Cunha. Now, KJo's banner has signed a new director who hasn't worked with Dharma Productions in the past.
According to the source, Advait Chandan will most likely helm the spiritual sequel of the Dostana franchise. Moreover, the makers are gearing up to start shooting in September 2025 or early next year. However, it depends on Vikrant Massey's Don 3 schedule.
