Crowded Entry, Rising Risk

Soon after, a man approached carrying more than a dozen balloons stuffed into a large polythene sack. The bulky load made it difficult for him to enter. Noticing his struggle, the woman adjusted her position to make space.

The man squeezed himself inside and moved toward a corner. Just then, another man in a black shirt attempted to step into the elevator, adding to the cramped space.

Explosion Inside the Elevator

Before the doors could close properly, the balloons suddenly ignited. A massive burst of fire erupted inside the confined lift, filling it with flames in an instant. The blaze momentarily obscured the CCTV footage, swallowing the three occupants from view. When visibility returned, they were seen scrambling out in shock. The balloon carrier lost his footing and fell while trying to escape.

While the original source of the video couldn't be traced, it is shared on social media and the clips have gone viral.

Injuries and Police Action

The incident occurred in Goregaon, a suburb of Mumbai. According to police, both the man carrying the balloons and the woman sustained burn injuries. Authorities have filed a case against the balloon seller as part of the investigation.

Officials are still determining the type of gas used. While helium is non-flammable, hydrogen, sometimes used as a cheaper alternative, can ignite easily and cause explosive reactions in enclosed spaces.
