Khordha firecracker blast claims one life, leaves three critically injured

One person was killed, and three others sustained critical injuries following a powerful explosion during the handling of firecrackers in Odisha’s Khordha district late Tuesday night.

The incident occurred at Narisho Nidhi Sahi under Balipatana police limits, where firecrackers were reportedly being handled at a unit. According to preliminary reports, the activity triggered a massive blast that completely destroyed the structure housing the firecracker materials.

The deceased has been identified as Abhina Kandi. Three others who suffered serious injuries were rescued from the site and initially provided medical assistance before being shifted to a hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment.

Locals Recall Loud Explosion

The intensity of the explosion was such that the building was reduced to rubble, drawing local residents to the spot after a loud sound echoed through the area.

“There was an extremely loud noise. When we reached the site, nothing was left. We rushed to douse the fire immediately,” said a local resident.

Another resident of Narisho said, “At first, we thought someone was bursting firecrackers. When we reached the spot, we saw everything had been completely destroyed.”

Police Launch Probe

The Balipatana police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion and to ascertain whether safety norms were violated. However, no official statement has yet been issued by the police regarding the findings of the probe.
