Women are walking miles, carrying buckets and pots of water in the scorching heat. These visuals are from Bhanjanagar block’s Danguapalli village in Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik’s home district Ganjam. At the entrance of the village, a plaque has also been put up which mentions that water is being supplied through Basudha Yojana. Though there is a solar water supply project in the village, it has been allegedly lying defunct for the last five years. The iron-filled water of the tube well in the village is not fit for use or consumption. Irked with this acute drinking water crisis, villagers have threatened to boycott the polls if their problems are not resolved at the earliest. As per the allegations, the political leaders only visit their area during the time of election and give many false promises. However, they forget all their promises as soon as the election is over. Allegedly, people of the area are also getting affected by many diseases by using contaminated water from ponds and wells. As of now, no comments of the concerned officials of the district administration could be obtained over the allegations made by the villagers.
