A sensational revelation rocked Odisha Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, as Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan exposed that Deepak Rout, the killer cop of Commissionerate Police now under scrutiny for multiple murders, had killed his first wife Aparna in 2022, not by accident, but with cold-blooded intent to claim insurance money.
The alleged murder had taken place on March 17, 2022, and was originally reported as a fatal road accident. But new evidence shows the truck involved in the ‘staged crash’ was actually in Rourkela on that day — making the “accident” a carefully planned cover-up.

In a fiery speech, the Law Minister directly targeted the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), asking who was in power during 2022, and who deliberately hid or suppressed the crime.
The revelations did not stop there. Minister Harichandan also expressed that Deepak has confessed to murdering traffic constable Subhamitra, allegedly over a demand for Rs 20 lakh as part of a marriage negotiation. When the demand was not met, Deepak allegedly killed her too on September 6.
Explosive disclosures made by the Minister have sparked outrage, raising serious questions about law enforcement, political influence, and delayed justice.
Initially, it was believed that Subhamitra, a native of Paradip town in Jagatsinghpur district and posted in Bhubaneswar, had disappeared after leaving home for duty.
“Accused Deepak Rout has admitted that he had taken Subhamitra Sahoo from her office on September 6, 2025, to Unit-6 locality in his Honda City car (Registration Number OD-02 R-8494). He killed her there in the afternoon between 2.00 PM to 3.00 PM by strangulating her throat,” the Law Minister said in his written reply.
“If the crime scenario of the entire State during past five years is taken into consideration, about 27,810 crimes had occurred against women in 2020; 35,326 in 2021; 27,964 in 2022, 30,078 in 2023; and 30779 in 2024,” the Law Minister stated.
