The highest civilian award - Padma Shri - was announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday. In a matter of great joy, there are four individuals from Odisha among other great personalities that have been selected for the Padma Awards. As per the list released by Union Government, Binod Maharana, Gopinath Swain, Bhagabat Pradhan and Binod Kumar Pasayat have been selected for the prestigious awards. 105-year-old Gopinath Swain hails from Govindapur village in Sheragada block of Ganjam district. He has been performing Krishna Leela for over nine decades now. Gopinath said that even at this age he can perform Krishna Leela for 12 hours. He even trains around 40 students now across Ganjam. Binod Kumar Maharana, a master painter and Pattachitra artist based in Bhubaneswar, is a recipient of National Award, Vishwakarma Citation and State Lalit Kala Akademi Award. He was chosen for the Padma Shri for his contribution to preserving the Pattachitra art form. Bhagabat Pradhan is a Sabda Nrutya folk dancer from Bargarh district, who has taken the cultural art form beyond the temples. He has dedicated over five decades of his life to preserving this dance form that is considered as an ode to Mahadev. Till now he has trained more than 600 students. 88-year-old Binod Kumar Pasayat hailing from Sambalpur town wears many hats. He is a renowned lyricist, playwright, poet and much more. He is counted among the eminent personalities in western Odisha for last seven decades.
