If you had thought that Covid-19 is a thing of the past, think again! A new covid-19 variant that is likely to cause more serious infections and may dodge into the vaccine shield has spiked concerns among the scientists. The emerging variant is named as JN.1. It was first identified in Luxembourg on August 25, 2023 and then spread to England, Iceland, France, and the US. Even though the JN.1 belongs to same lineage, it has a sheer amount of differences from leading strains of Covid like XBB.1.5 and HV.1. Reports suggest that Xbb1.5 strain went through 41 mutations on its spike protein to attain this stage. Therefore, scientists are worried that vaccines might not work to restrain the variant. Meanwhile, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that an updated Covid Vaccine will be required to protect commoners against JN.variant.
